Our Life of Prayer

At St. John’s, our worship is founded upon the Mass, the Daily Office, and private devotions. Whether we gather for a crowded High Feast, or kneel in quiet morning prayer, we participate together in the one, continuous act of worship to the Father through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  • Sundays at 9:30 a.m. and Weekdays at 9:00 a.m.

The Holy Eucharist, also known as the Mass, stands at the heart of the Christian life. It is not only the Church’s supreme act of worship but also the central offering around which the rest of our spiritual life is ordered. In the Mass, we are drawn into the self-offering of Christ, uniting our lives to His perfect sacrifice. Participation in the Eucharist nourishes our faith, sustains our discipleship, and anchors us in the mystery of God’s very life.

  • Weekdays at 8:45 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Morning and Evening Prayer provide the steady rhythm of the Church’s daily intercession and praise. Rooted in Scripture and shaped by the Psalms, the Office is not a private devotion but a corporate act of the whole Church, offered by the Body of Christ across time and place. By keeping the Office regularly, we join in the Church’s ceaseless prayer, allowing its cadence to form our hearts in patience, humility, and faithful attentiveness to God. All are welcome to join.

  • In addition to the Church’s public worship, the spiritual life is deepened through personal prayer and devotion. Each Christian is called to cultivate a rule of life that includes private devotion—simple, steady practices such as meditation on Scripture, intercession, the use of devotional aids, and acts of recollection throughout the day. These quiet, personal offerings are not separate from the Church’s prayer, but flow from it and return to it, forming a vital part of a balanced and rooted spiritual life.

“In a country where all is new, and much is unsettled and fluctuating, the Church, with her venerable Liturgy and her apostolic order, offers a center of stability and a home of peace. The familiar words of the Prayer Book... have a power to move the heart and to bind the worshiper to the great body of the faithful in all age”

The Rt. Rev. Alexander Garrett, Founding Bishop of St. John’s

What to Expect

Whether you are a lifelong Anglican or a first-time visitor, you are welcome here.

  • Our principal Sunday service is the Holy Mass at 9:30 a.m. in the Church. After Mass, we host a coffee hour with refreshments for all parishioners and visitors. And then shortly after 11:00 a.m., there is catechesis class until noon.

  • You can expect our Sunday Mass to be a reverent, traditional, and sacramental celebration of the Holy Eucharist. It is worship in the Anglican tradition at its best. The liturgy, from the Book of Common Prayer, is sung with accompaniment from organ and parish choir. On High Feasts, you can expect a High Mass with incense, processions, and traditional ceremonial.

  • Our parking lot is between 14th Street and 5th Avenue. Street parking is also available. And when the bank is closed, you may park there.

The main entrance is the red double doors — located off of Collin Street on the 14th Street end. You may also enter the side entrance from the parking lot.

  • Our liturgy is a participation in the Holy Mysteries of Redemption - so our attire should be reverent. You will see some parishioners in their “Sunday best”, while others is more casual attire. Your presence is more desirable than your wardrobe.

  • All those who have been baptized with water in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, — and who are prepared to receive Christ’s true body and blood — are welcome to receive the sacrament.

If you are not ready or unbaptized, you are welcome to come to the altar to kneel and receive a blessing from the priest.

  • Just as our Lord said “Let the little children come to me,” so too our worship is Child-friendly. The noise of your little ones are not obstacles to us, but music to our ears. They are welcome to join us and stay in at Mass.

With that said, for the benefit of parents (if they desire), we offer a staffed nursery on Sunday mornings. Please ask an usher and they can show you where to go.

  • All weekday liturgies are open to the public. You may attend our Daily Mass at 9:00 a.m. or Daily Office liturgies at 8:45 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. These take place Tuesday through Friday.

Occasionally, these services have to be canceled due to having one priest. If you are driving in, and would like to confirm if one of these liturgies is still scheduled, feel free to call the Office (open 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.)
